Obedience training is offered for all levels, from puppies and pet dogs, to competition standard obedience. Further details are on the Obedience Pages. Training is held throughout the year at the clubs training ground at Foxhills in Scunthorpe on Tuesday nights, and all breeds are welcome.

Training sessions last from 1/2 an hour for puppies, and 1 hour for other classes, and cost £1 per session for members.   Please contact us for training times, and further details.

Training methods are kind and reward-based to achieve happy and well trained dogs.

Classes are:

bulletPuppies aged 3- months old
bulletBronze level, for beginner dogs over 6 months old.
bulletSilver level, for dogs who have passed the Bronze test.
bulletGold level, for dogs who have passed the Silver test.

The exercises taught, include socialising with other dogs and people; temperament; sit; down; stand positions; stays; walking at heel; recalling from a distance; emergency control; retrieving, and progressing to more advanced competition exercises including scent discrimination; distance control; send aways etc.

Many of the above exercises are intended to provide the owner with control of their dog in daily life, but they are also the foundation on which formal obedience competitions are based if owners are interested in pursuing this activity.  However, this training also gives the owner the essential control for them to take part in agility and flyball.

The club also supports and promotes the Kennel Club Good Citizen Training Scheme.  There are 4 levels - Puppy, Bronze, Silver and Gold - which include a range of exercises specifically aimed at day to day life activities such as walking in the street, playing in the park, traveling in a car, feeding, grooming etc.  Also, as part of the Kennel Club Scheme, training is given in the responsibilities of dog ownership as well as a basic understanding of the relationships between dogs and people.
